Saturday long run: meet at the Corps of Engineers parking lot, Clinton Lake north shore trail head, 7:15 a.m. Normally do about 10 -30 miles on technical trail, though there are plenty of turn-arounds if you want to go shorter. Field trips to Perry Lake for long runs there are planned for later this summer. Run leader: Gary “Story Hawk” Henry, 785-766-0293, unews@ultrastory.com for more info. Monday tempo run: meet at Haskell Indian Nations, 6:30 p.m. for a fast short run on smooth trails and grass. Run leader: Jim “Family Hawk” Beiter, 785-550-4361, jasb71@sbcglobal.net for more info.
Wednesday short to middy run Meet at the Corps of Engineers parking lot, Clinton Lake north shore trail head, 6:15 p.m. Run about 5.5 to 10 miles on technical trail. Sometimes go out for dinner after. Run leader: Nick “Colo Hawk” Lang, 775-240-5717, nick.lang@gmail.com for more info.
Thursday WOMEN ONLY Gal Gallop Don’t have to be fast or able to run 20 miles for this one. Only requirement is to not be a guy! It’s all about having fun in a supportive, non-competitive trail environment. Goes at the pace of the slowest runner — beginner-friendly. Call Coleen “Lil Big Hawk” Voeks at 913-636-1451. Hopefully she’s found her cell phone by now. If not, you can also e-mail cynicalmudbabe@yahoo.com
Alternate contacts — Sandy “Crafty Hawk” Beiter at 785-218-6287 or Christy at 970-217-0452
More runs to come! Please check back!
About the Hawks
The Lawrence Trail Hawks, founded by Lawrence area trail and ultra runners, will run on, promote and care for the Lawrence trails, including the Kansas River Trails (sometimes known as the Sand Rat trails), and the Clinton Lake North Shore Trails.
We’ll work with the Department of Parks and Wildlife and the Kansas Trails Council to help keep the trails groomed and free of trash. We’ll stage events, and help with other groups’ events that meet our goals of promoting and caring for the trails.
We will take care of the trails, our fellow Trail Hawk members, and all others who have interest in the trails similar to our own. We might not do as much as we’d like, but we’ll do what we can.
Please check this blog page for news of Lawrence Trail Hawks events. Questions? Want to join the Lawrence Trail Hawks? E-mail Gary Henry at unews@ultrastory.com
See you on the trails!
